He was survived by his mother Mrs. Toyo Nakawatase, sisters Mrs. Chiyo Hayashi Watanabe, Kiyo Hayashi, and Sayo Nakawatase, and brothers Seichi and Shizuo Nakawatase. In 1948, the remains of Americans buried overseas began slowly to return to the US, if the family so wished.
