Camp Shelby Baseball
From Hattiesburg American June 16, 1943
The 442nd Inf. Took a firm hold on second place in the Eastern League of the Camp Shelby Non-Divisional Baseball League by trouncing the 522nd F. A. 9-3 yesterday afternoon.
The Japanese-American 9 pounded out five runs in a merry-go-round first inning to build up a substantial lead that was never challenged. With one-out first baseman Tanaka got on when hit by a pitched ball. Mori lifted a high fly which the left fielder dropped. Beppu came through to fill the bases. Then the left fielder Kashiwaeda cracked out a mighty wallop to clean the bases. Yogi, the next batter, hit another home run to account for the fifth run.
The 442nds scored two more runs in the second inning on two hits and two errors. The other runs were made in the 5th and 6th innings. The 442nd collected 8 hits to four for the losers.
The batters were Miyamoto, Uchigake and Hirahara, Tsunehiro; Ikenaga and Kobayashi.
