… Next on the program was an exhibition of “Judo” which is the art of self-defense and hand-to-hand combat without weapons. The exhibition was staged by two members of the 442nd Inf. Combat Team presented by Pvt. Jimmy Kubo of Honolulu. Then came the six boxing bouts in the first bout Mouro defeated Georgie; the second was fought to a draw by a Bajos and Negeley. The third went to Finazzo winner over Curtis. Style was victor over Pasquale in the fourth match. The fifth saw Figuerro defeat John Spatare and Salvatore Spataro took the sixth from Omeda.
Salvatore Spataro holds the lightweight championship of Camp Shelby and was formerly lightweight champion of Ft. Warren, Wyoming.

The Hattiesburg American was founded in 1897 as a weekly newspaper, the Hattiesburg Progress.[2] In 1907, the Hattiesburg Progress was acquired by The Hattiesburg Daily News. When the U.S. entered World War I in 1917, the newspaper was renamed the Hattiesburg American.
The Hattiesburg American was purchased by the Harmon family in the 1920s and was sold to the Hederman family in 1960.[2] Gannett acquired the newspaper in 1982.
