Happy Belated 100th Birthday to Edy Hideyoshi Horikawa! Edy turned 100 on August 14, 2020. His birthday was celebrated with a drive-by parade in front of their house, featuring the Seattle Fire & Police Departments, as well as Mayor Jenny Durkan.
Edy’s seen a lot in the past 100 years. According to a news story from KIRO 7 in Seattle, he was born in the back of a hardware store in 1920. In the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack, his family was forcibly moved to Tule Lake Relocation Center. Despite that, he enlisted into the Army and served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. During his service, he received 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star among other awards. He worked for Boeing after the war. Next, he is planning to write a book about his experiences during the war.
