Fighting Two Wars AJA Veterans Tribute

By Gail Nishimura, S&D It was a very interesting afternoon.  To see and talk to many veterans and their families was really something that I will remember for a long time. There were so many people who came out to honor the veterans and the slide show that was playing in the background was an additional highlight.  It was nice to see my uncle’s picture when it popped up.  Most of the veterans posed for the official picture, I think this was a big challenge for the photographers.  But the photo came out really nice! The mistress of ceremonies, Leslie Wilcox, kept the program moving smoothly. The 442nd RCT 74th Anniversary Banquet

By Lynn Heirakuji, S&D member The 442nd Regimental Combat Team 74th Anniversary Banquet was held at the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel on Sunday, March 26, 2017. The 442nd Veterans Club sponsored the annual affair, which was attended by about 440 people – 49 Nisei veterans also signed up for the event. Ken Inouye, son of the late Senator Daniel K. Inouye, served as the Master of Ceremonies and Governor David Y. Ige rendered the moving keynote address. The Governor, son of a 100th Infantry Battalion veteran, reminded the audience of the climate of racial hysteria that gripped the Nation in the aftermath of the 1941 Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. Sneak Preview of the Go For Broke, A 442 Origins Story movie, Hawai’i Theater, October 8, 2017 By Gail Nishimura and Jon Ishihara “442nd RCT Foundation Presents a Stacey Hayashi Production” was on the printed program for this special event to provide a preview of this movie long in the making on the 442nd RCT. In attendance at the Hawai’I Theatre in Honolulu were some 442nd veterans, many 100th/442nd family members and distinguished guests. The movie preview was attended by approximately 1400 people. Opening the event was a group of dancers from Okinawa and Hawaii, with a lively presentation. The Aloha Luncheon for Admiral Harry B. Harris, Jr. and his wife Bruni Bradley. A luncheon planned by a committee of members from the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans, Sons & Daughters of the 442nd RCT, Military Intelligence Service Veterans Club of Hawaii, Nisei Veterans Legacy and other organizations was held at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki in honor of Admiral Harris’ outstanding service including in his present position as Commander of the United States Pacific Command as well as for his steadfast support of the legacy of Nisei veterans including...

La Légion d’honneur medal conferment ceremony by the French government for six American Japanese veterans of World War II on June 1, 2019 was trés magnifique! The audience, Governor David Ige, Mrs. Dawn Amano-Ige, both, whose fathers served with the 100th Infantry Battalion, many members of the Consular Corps of Hawaii and a large contingent of family and friends of the veterans, was very pleased to witness the rare historic knighthood and medal pinning, by Consul General Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens of San Francisco, bestowed on our six courageous heroes seated on stage. “Go For Broke” Nisei Soldiers Commemorative Stamp

The United States Postal Service, USPS, issued the “Go For Broke” Nisei Soldiers Commemorative Stamp honoring the legacy of Nisei Soldiers of World War II on Thursday, June 3, 2021 – the First Date of Issue (FDOI). The City of Los Angeles is the First City of Issue.  It has been a long journey for the Stamp Our Story Founders and their supporters, but the stamp is finally a reality! Stamp Our Story was founded in 2005 by three Nisei women, all of whom were incarcerated during the war.  They are Californians, Fusa Takahashi, 93, Aiko O. King, 93, and the late Chizuko Ohira.
